Acknowledgement A book like this requires a lot of input. We have been fortunate enough to have several SAP experts, as my friends and well-wishers, who were more than willing to provide me with helpful inputs in the form of tips, clarifications, and reviews to shape the questions presented in this book. We have consciously avoided listing all of them here for the simple reason that it may be possible that we inadvertently leave one or more names, and that may look inappropriate. Instead, we extend a loud ‘thanks’ to all of them. We thank BPB Publishers for suggesting the publication of this title, which is a revision of an earlier book published in 2006. We acknowledge and thank the content development and technical editors for their input and feedback that helped refine the contents of this book, which reflects the latest in SAP, the ‘SAP S/4HANA Finance’. We also appreciate and acknowledge the excellent work done by the layout experts who helped have a world-class book as the end product with pleasing aesthetics. We want to thank our readers, who have shown tremendous interest in our previous book, which was similar to this and hope that they will continue to support this revised and updated book as well.
Preface This is the revised version of my earlier book ‘SAP FICO Demystified: Questions & Answers’ published in 2006. The book was related to SAP R/3. Over time, SAP has evolved so much that it would not be possible to just ‘revise’ the earlier book without re-writing to cover the latest in SAP. That is what you have in your hands: a book fully revised to cover SAP S/4HANA Finance. Accordingly, the book has also been renamed ‘Financial Accounting in SAP S/4HANA Finance Simplified: Questions & Answers.’ The book unravels the complexity of SAP S/4HANA Finance through numerous ‘Questions & Answers’ in the crucial application and sub-application areas. The questions are collated and explained logically so that you progress seamlessly from the basic to the advanced topics. Still, should you find it difficult to visualize what is dealt with in a particular question, there is help through numerous illustrations in the form of screenshots, diagrams, etc., throughout the book. The screenshots (from SAP S/4HANA Finance OP 2023 version), in particular, will help you to comprehend as if you are in front of a computer running the application! This book comprises of 19 chapters: While the first chapter focuses on the basics of SAP and its evolution over the years, the second chapter discusses the technical side of SAP, providing insight into ABAP, Basis, and NetWeaver. The third and fourth chapters discuss SAP HANA and SAP S/4HANA, respectively. Chapter five is all about SAP
Fiori. The sixth one is on SAP project management, dealing with the various aspects you need to know while implementing SAP. The seventh chapter deals with SAP S/4HANA Finance, outlining the different solution areas. Chapters eight and nine provide you with the basics of Financial Accounting (FI) in SAP, paving the way for further understanding. Chapters 10, 11 and 12 deal with the SAP FI global settings, with Chapter 10 dealing with ledgers, Chapter 11 on documents, and Chapter 12 on tax on sales/purchases. Chapter 13 discusses withholding tax, including extended withholding tax (EWT). Chapter 14 is all about inflation accounting in SAP. Chapters 15 to 19 deal with the various application areas within SAP S/4HANA Finance, in detail: General Ledger, Accounts Receivable & Payable, Bank Accounting, and Asset Accounting. Within these chapters, you will see questions covering the concepts, customizing aspects, tips & tricks, pitfalls, and suggestions to overcome them with numerous screenshots & illustrations, examples, etc. In all, this book provides you with answers to about 650 questions. You can use the book the way you want: you can start reading from the first chapter, or you can pick up any chapter or question at random and read that. Either way, the answers to the questions will provide you with the required conceptual background of the aspect being discussed, together with the examples and screenshots, including specific customizing inputs that may be required to work with the system. I am sure that this book will be useful and handy to all, irrespective of the fact whether you are an experienced SAP consultant, a beginner, an end-user, or just someone who is about to learn about SAP, SAP Finance, or SAP S/4HANA Finance.
